My book All The President's Men by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward is a very important and a quite valuable issue. The book is about the Watergate scandal where President Nixon gets impeached after being accused by the Washington Post of political sabotage and espionage, along with other crimes. He was found guilty for all crimes, so he was going to be inevitably impeached. But my book ends with a dramatic cliffhanger with him giving his resignation speech, but it ended without him finishing the speech. So later I did some research to find out, that in fact he did resign. So the reason my book is so important is because it is the first hand accounts of the two Washington Post reporters who were able to get the president impeached. This story will always be remembered in the future because the press will never ever be looked at the same. Until this issue the press were mostly looked at as just reporters who report whats happening, but this issue made them looked at as investigators who are able to expose the governments deepest secrets.

My book "All The President's Men" is based on the Watergate scandal where the Washington Post exposed president Nixon of his illegal and impeachable activities. Throughout this process most of America and especially the White House doubted the Press and thought they were corrupt. This connects to today's President Trump accusing news sources such as CNN for "fake news" and just like during the watergate scandal most news sources are trying to accuse him of impeachable evidence that may not be exactly true. Just like during the 1970's and present day, the American citizens are not sure who to trust and believe more their President or the Press.
My book is "All the Presidents Men", and is about the Watergate scandal and how it happened. The Watergate scandal took place in the early 1970's, it happened right after the Pentagon Papers leaked top secret information related to the Vietnam War. So people were already questioning the government. The Watergate scandal is when two journalists found recorded tapes in the Watergate hotel of President Richard Nixon making illegal deals. My book is written by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, and they were the two reporters who exposed the whole scandal. People across the nation had many different feelings when they read the article in The Washington Post, such as betrayed and mad. During this uproar Congress had voted to impeach President Nixon but before they could he resigned from presidential office. My book shows how the two journalists put all of the pieces to solve the Watergate Scandal, and since it is written by two primary sources they share some information that people have never heard.
An issue that I would like to fix is pollution from littered garbage at Jordan Lake. This is a very meaningful issue because everyday hundreds of people visit Jordan Lake. I am personally interested in this issue because I have been to Jordan Lake several times and I can't imagine it being destroyed because of garbage. Others in my community are also affected by this because it is a big fishing destination and the garbage kills fish. I am going to work with an organization called Clean Jordan Lake to help fix this issue.
Cleaning up Jordan lake Today Jordan lake is a place where families and friends come together to bond over a mutual love for the beauty and nature of the lake. But how can we do this when our lake is polluted. Our community service project is focused on cleaning Jordan lake. Previous volunteers were able to remove 600 tires and 700 bags of trash, this shows just how much can be done to clean the lake. If we are chosen, we will bring 40 martin students to the lake partnering with “Clean Jordan Lake” and make an effort to clean up the trash. If nobody helps clean up Jordan Lake then soon it will be totally trashed, which not only will make it very unpleasant for the people who go on picnics or enjoy the scenery while hiking. But it will also kill innocent animals and wildlife that live throughout the state park. Which I am pretty sure nobody wants to be responsible for. So if you care about innocent wildlife dying and beautiful state parks being destroyed then I suggest you help us clean Jordan Lake! If this problem is not fixed it could also eventually lead to hurting the local economy. Jordan Lake is a very popular destination for outdoors enthusiasts in the Raleigh area. So if we don’t help clean up the lake that would be kind of selfish because now other people can’t enjoy the park. And I’m pretty sure nobody wants to be classified as selfish. So why not help clean up Jordan Lake! The problem our community service project group will be fixing is cleaning up trash at Jordan Lake. Which doesn’t sound like a big deal at first. But, over 300,000 people get their drinking water from Jordan Lake (According to the 2010 U.S Census), so it is quite disturbing how polluted this lake is. Due to all of this trash and pollution it causes major algae blooms, that kill aquatic life. Jordan Lake has a big bass fishing sport and if the fish are dying it will become unpopular. If keeps continuing Jordan Lake state park could shut down due to lack of activity. The ways people help out can differ, for example the volunteers who were able to remove 600 tires and 700 bags of trash from the lake, and yes that is a lot but it does not mean that we are done cleaning the lake, this is merely just the tip of the waste iceberg. The organization “Clean Jordan Lake” has done great things to clean the environment, they were the ones that removed the tires and trash that was aforementioned. Our goal is to help out the community and clean up a beloved lake. We can't expect the lake to just clean itself we need to take action to clean it up. We can all do something to pitch in and clean up our local environment. But it isn't only citizens that are trying to help out the house budget is also giving 1.3million to fund getting the algae out of the lake to maintain the health of the lake and its organisms but they are on the fence about what method to use. The leading method as of now is to put chemicals into the lake to keep the algae from killing the organisms and harmfully affecting our fragile ecosystem. The reason that the house hasn't put this into action yet is because scientists behind it don't know if its 100% safe, and we can't afford another failed project like the solar bees. We can help reduce the pollution in Jordan lake by volunteering to clean it up. Jordan lake is quite polluted and a volunteer group could clean a lot up. We can have a group of 40 or some 8th graders with chaperones to go to a previously selected location and clean up the shore and surrounding area. We have already talked to an organization “Clean Jordan Lake” and they are happy to tell us a spot to go and volunteer. It would most likely be an all day effort accounting for transportation there and back. In doing this we would actually make a impact on Jordan Lake’s ecosystem. We would have around 40 people picking up trash for a couple hours, a very good amount of trash could be picked up. If we get picked I feel like a big impact would be made on Jordan Lake and its surrounding area. We can make the area cleaner for the animals and plants and make the area safer and cleaner for people. That is why you should pick our project to clean jordan lake. January 2018. http://cleanjordanlake.org/about-us/ I believe that basketball has made me a stronger person in many different ways. These traits not only help me now but will also help me in the future. These traits consist of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication. I will explain these traits in this essay.
The first trait that I will like to explain is teamwork. Basketball has taught me this due to the fact that it is a team sport. At the start of the season my teams don’t always get along well but that's when we decide that it is important for us to all have good teamwork so that we can succeed.Soon after we start to bond well as a team we almost start to become like brothers. I feel that this skill can come in handy in many different ways in the future. I want to play in the NBA, so if I play i can use teamwork to work with my team. But in a business side of things i can use it to work with a group of people to actually get thing done. My next trait is perseverance. I use this trait daily, to persevere through each day of school. But where I got this skill was last year on the school basketball team. I didn’t start much which was a new thing or me. But i persevered and got through this by putting extra work in, in practice and off the court. I hope to use this in the future when I am faced with difficult problems such as tough times in school or difficulties with a coach. My last trait is dedication. This really really sticks out for me because to become the player that I am today it took hard work and dedication. It was hard for me at first because I’ve always been so tall and uncoordinated that simple things are a little bit harder for me. But i dedicated myself to basketball and accomplished the goals I’ve always had for myself. Now I have to set new goals and work to reach those. I can use this in the future with almost anything I do all I have to do to use it is work hard and stay loyal to whatever I’m doing. In conclusion I believe that basketball isn’t just a sport but a lesson waiting to be learned. I can back this up by all the lessons I’ve learned. But the most important ones are teamwork, perseverance, and dedication. With these three things I believe that i will succeed in whatever I do in the future. |
